The capital raise aims to unlock retail investment from the Caribbean diaspora in the United States to fund affordable housing projects across the Caribbean, beginning with phase-one developments in Jamaica.
According to data cited by the company, the Jamaican diaspora sends approximately US$3.3 billion annually in remittances to Jamaica, with over 65% originating from the U.S. Concurrently, Jamaica faces an estimated shortage of 150,000 homes, with fewer than 10,000 units constructed annually. Blue Mahoe Capital plans to address this gap by constructing homes priced between $50,000 and $253,000, aligning with qualification thresholds for the country’s National Housing Trust (N.H.T.) subsidized mortgages.
