THE PACK Reports 41% Growth in the First Half of 2024 as Interest in Plant-Based Pet Food Surges - vegconomist - the vegan business magazine

UK plant-based pet food brand THE PACK has reported that it saw 41% growth in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. The company also now has over 200 customers signed up for regular D2C orders.

THE PACK is currently looking to raise £100,000 via an ongoing crowdfunding campaign to fuel further expansion. The brand notes that the plant-based pet food market is seeing rapid growth globally, indicating that there is likely to be strong demand for its products.

A Vegan Society report published in 2022 found that a significant proportion of Brits were interested in buying plant-based food for their pets, and that the trend was not limited to vegetarian and vegan pet owners. According to THE PACK, the growing interest in plant-based pet food is likely driven by environmental and animal welfare concerns.

The brand also points out that an increasing body of research supports the health benefits of plant-based diets for dogs and cats, helping to convince some pet owners to make the switch. Furthermore, the British Veterinary Association has recently changed its policy on meat-free diets for dogs, acknowledging that “It is possible to feed dogs a plant-based diet”.

“Remarkable increase in interest”

THE PACK launched its crowdfunding campaign in June, shortly after gaining a listing for its products at London supermarket chain Planet Organic. Investors can still join the campaign until October 4.

The company’s first products, a range of wet foods for dogs, were launched in 2021. An oven-baked dried dog food made from ingredients such as peanut butter and sweet potato was introduced last year. In November 2023, THE PACK became a certified B Corp, claiming to be the first fully plant-based pet food brand in Europe to receive the certification.

“We’ve seen a remarkable increase in interest from pet owners who are looking for sustainable and nutritious alternatives to traditional meat-based foods,” said Damien Clarkson, co-founder and CEO of THE PACK. “Increasingly we are seeing customers coming to us for a myriad of reasons, perhaps their dog suffers from allergies or needs to eat a diet that is easier on their stomach and offers high levels of digestibility like our products at THE PACK.”
