An entrepreneur seeking to publish cryptocurrency software for crowdfunding campaigns asked a federal court to prospectively block the Justice Department from prosecuting the planned business.
Cryptocurrency consultant Michael Lewellen filed a complaint Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas against US Attorney General Merrick Garland. The complaint seeks an order declaring the software lawful and an injunction prospectively barring the government from going after Lewellen’s planned company, Pharos.
Pharos would serve cryptocurrency crowdfunding campaigns for charitable causes or business ventures by allowing people to route their cryptocurrency through the software, Lewellen says.
