The developer of the upcoming real-time strategy game Stormgate, which is being created by former Starcraft staff, has announced a crowd-equity campaign that allows fans to invest in the company. Frost Giant Studios has partnered with StartEngine to offer fans the opportunity to acquire shares in the company. Interested parties can reserve a share ahead of the campaign’s activation in March, which serves as an indicator of potential interest to the Stormgate team. Currently, almost £300,000 has been reserved from 177 investors. However, StartEngine advises that all investments are speculative and involve a high degree of risk.
In 2022, Stormgate raised £18.4 million for its development, bringing the total funding to £25.6 million. The purpose of this equity campaign is to support a strategic marketing campaign and prepare for Stormgate’s early access launch this summer. Frost Giant Studios aims to control its own destiny and self-publish the game in the West with direct support from the player community, in order to avoid the current instability in the industry.
Frost Giant Studios CEO Tim Morten stated in an interview with NME that there was never an actual decline in real-time strategy (RTS) player numbers, but rather a significant increase in popularity for other genres. He believes that Stormgate can be the game to break down barriers and bring the RTS genre back into the spotlight.
In other gaming news, Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO has advised players to hold off on purchasing Helldivers 2 until server issues are resolved, to avoid disappointment and frustration.
