A startup called Sonical has launched a crowdfunding campaign focusing on “AI for your ears”. By which it means smarter headphones, or as the company pitches its technology: “Headphone 3.0 – the first appable audio platform”. Basically this means headphones that can run apps: music, communication, fitness and more, all delivered through its CosmOS software.
Sonical is planning to make money from sales of its own hardware; licensing CosmOS to other companies; and taking a share of the revenue made by developers of apps for these devices. The company says it has raised $4m already to build the technology, but is now raising $1m more to expand its developer community and launch the products commercially.
The crowdfunding campaign goes live on 30 April, and claims a $27m pre-money valuation for Sonical.
