GPD Duo dual-screen OLED laptop to sell for $1270 and up during crowdfunding - Liliputing

The GPD Duo is a dual-screen laptop with an unusual design. While some dual-screen notebooks have a display in the spot where you’d normally find a keyboard, and others have screens that flip out from behind the primary display for a side-by-side setup, the GPD Duo has a set of screens that fold vertically.

This allows you to use the computer like a traditional laptop or flip a second screen up so that it’s positioned above the primary display. You can also fold it so that one screen faces outward for use in tablet mode. Or you can have two back-to-back screens for watching videos, showing presentations, or playing games with someone sitting across from you. GPD has been promoting its dual-screen laptop for months, and now the company is getting ready to launch an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for the GPD Duo. One thing to keep in mind though? This is an expensive laptop.

Prices will start at $1270 during crowdfunding for a model with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. That’s marked down from a suggested retail price of $1425, but it’s still a lot of money to spend on a laptop from a company that’s not exactly a household name (GPD is best known for making handheld gaming PCs and mini laptops, not mainstream computers).

The company will also offer models with AMD’s newer, more powerful Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, but they cost even more, with crowdfunding prices starting at $1650 for a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD or $1860 for a 64GB/2TB version.

Still, there’s really nothing else on the market right now that’s quite like the GPD Duo. And that might be enough to help justify the high price tags.

The laptop features two 13.3 inch, 2880 x 1800 pixel, 60 Hz OLED displays with up to 500 nits max brightness and support for the Microsoft Pen Protocol, meaning you can use a pressure sensitive pen.

The primary display can be opened at up to a 135 degree angle, while the second screen can flip 360 degrees, allowing you to hide it, flip it 180 degrees for use as a second screen, or fold the laptop closed with the second screen facing the keyboard or facing upward (for use in tablet mode).

Ports include a 64 Gbps OCuLink connector, a 40 Gbps USB4 port, and several additional USB ports as well as a 2.5 GbE Ethernet port and a USB-C port for video input, allowing you to use the GPD Duo like a portable display.

The notebook is reasonably compact, measuring 297 x 210 x 24mm (11.7″ x 8.3″ x 0.9″), but it’s a bit on the heavy side at 2.2 kg (4.85 pounds). You can probably thank the combination of dual displays, an aluminum chassis, and an 80 Wh battery for that. Still, it’s probably weighs less than carrying both a single-screen laptop and a portable monitor.
