Blackbird Foods, a New York City-based plant-based food company, has announced the launch of its plant-based wings in Wegmans stores. The brand’s Buffalo and Korean BBQ-flavored wings are now available at over 100 Wegmans locations nationwide.
“Partnering with Wegmans […] highlights our shared dedication to providing high-quality, plant-based food options”
The expansion into Wegmans represents a key step in Blackbird Foods’ growth. Emanuel Storch, CEO of Blackbird Foods, highlighted the alignment between the two companies, stating, “Partnering with Wegmans is especially exciting, as it highlights our shared dedication to providing high-quality, plant-based food options.”
The plant-based wings, made from seitan, a wheat-based protein, are designed to mimic the texture and taste of traditional chicken wings. Each 12 oz package includes a separate sauce packet to enhance flavor. The Buffalo wings offer a spicy and tangy profile, while the Korean BBQ variety balances sweetness with savory notes.
Blackbird Foods was founded in 2020 by chefs and has since developed a range of plant-based products, including frozen pizzas and seitan-based wings. The company’s products are available in over 3,000 retailers across the United States, including Whole Foods, Target, and Sprouts.
Earlier this year, Blackbird Foods conducted an equity crowdfunding campaign via StartEngine, which helped fund the development of two additional flavors: Thai Chili and Texas BBQ. These new flavors are currently rolling out across East Coast retailers, though they are not included in the initial Wegmans launch.
Wegmans’ support for plant-based
Wegmans has previously supported the retail availability of various plant-based brands, including Elmhurst 1925, 7th Heaven Chocolate, and Mind Blown, which introduced its plant-based seafood at 80 Wegmans locations earlier this year.
Storch commented, “We’re excited to bring our plant-based WINGS to Wegmans shoppers. With comfort food season in full swing, we’re confident that our Buffalo and Korean BBQ WINGS will quickly become a go-to favorite.”
