New Tuscaloosa Cafe and Bakery Set to Open This Weekend with Crowdfunding Support

A bakery and cafe funded by the Tuscaloosa community through crowdfunding will open its doors to the public this weekend on Loop Road. Ben Rosairo, a Sri Lankan Brit, successfully raised over $30,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to establish a brick-and-mortar home for his passion for baking sourdough. Rosairo has been selling his treats at the Tuscaloosa Rivermarket for over three years. The new bakery and cafe, called Ben’s Bread, will specialize in European-style sourdough bread and pastries made with organic ingredients. The menu will initially feature the same items available at the Rivermarket but will expand over time. Customers can pre-order products for pickup or visit the bakery to see what is available. The bakery will also offer drip coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Rosairo envisions creating a calm and peaceful environment where customers can enjoy their treats. In the future, he hopes to add fresh-made sandwiches to the menu and incorporate family-friendly elements such as a play structure for children and a community vegetable garden. Rosairo expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from the Tuscaloosa community and emphasized that he could not have achieved his dream without their help. The bakery’s opening is a testament to the belief people have in his ability to succeed.
