LA500 2025: Howard Marks

Co-Founder, Chief Executive
StartEngine

Marks is perhaps best known for co-founding Activision Blizzard Inc., a video game developer based in Santa Monica that owns legendary franchises like Call of Duty and Candy Crush. When Marks left the company in 1998, he had a short tenure at a mobile games company he co-founded before switching gears and upstarting an accelerator known as StartEngine. In 2015, Marks turned StartEngine the accelerator into the equity crowdfunding platform it is known as today. StartEngine announced it doubled its revenue year-over-year in the first half of 2024 largely by introducing a new offering called StartEngine Private that allowed users to invest in late-stage companies. StartEngine boasts more than 1.8 million investors and around $1.3 billion in investments.
