Jnck kicks off crowdfunding drive to support Tesco launch

Jnck Bakery, which produces non-HFSS cookies, is seeking further investment to support its recent launch into Tesco and grow its product range.

The business last year unveiled cookies which it described as containing 90% less sugar, 50% less saturated fat, three times more protein and five times more fibre than existing cookie products in supermarkets and foodservice.

The launch followed almost two years of research by brothers Alex and Sean Brassill. Alex is a biomedical scientist who worked with a team of PhD scientists and specialists in bakery and sports nutrition to combine traditional baking methods and ‘cutting edge sweetness modulation technology’.

Jnck was last month revealed to have joined Tesco’s Accelerator Programme meaning the cookies are now stocked in more 500 Tesco stores with a rsp of £3.95 for a three-cookie multipack in three flavours: Milky Chocolate, Trippple Chocolate, and White Gold. The brand also has regional listings with Soho Coffee and Boost.

The business secured £300,000 investment at the start of 2023 and has just raised £250k through private investors. Early access is now open on Crowdcube with a target of £200k which will be used to support the Tesco launch.

Current investors include Irish rugby player, Ian Madigan; Mike Fine, former managing director from Accenture; Twan Snoeijen, ex McDonald’s, Cargill, Starbucks; and Simon Browning, strategic partnerships director at Krispy Kreme.

“We believe the food industry has to take more accountability for improving the nutrition of the nation – but that doesn’t mean people should be denied tasty treats,” said Sean Brassill.

“We’re just getting started on our journey and investors who join us will be helping to remove 800 tonnes of sugar from the UK supply chain over the next three years – and that’s just the start!”

The Jnck Bakery team includes Christye McKinney, who joined from Oppo Brothers; Simon Browning, who set up Krispy Kreme’s on-demand delivery in the UK; Paul Mumford, formerly with Britvic and General Mills; and Twan Snoeijen, who has worked with McDonald’s, Cargill and Starbucks.
